Plan a Trip to Salem Just in Time for Halloween

|

Where better to celebrate Halloween than the “Halloween Capital of the World?” Home to the Witch Trials of 1692, Salem, MA, is one of the best places to visit this Halloween with its eerie past and spooky aura. This town thrives in the fall with its colorful foliage, amazing costumes, and the history to bring it all together. Thanks to Alta Easterly, we’ve put together some fan favorites to check out during your fall trip to Salem.

Haunted Happenings 2018

The 36th Annual Salem Haunted Happenings is a month-long festive celebration of fall and Halloween in New England taking place Oct. 1-31. With more than 250,000 people in attendance every year, Haunted Happenings is the go-to spot for Halloween enthusiasts of all ages. Whether you prefer digging out the details of Salem’s witch history or would rather hear ghost stories with wicked twists at the Witch House, Haunted Happenings has the perfect amount of fright for everyone.

The Witch Museum

Located in downtown Salem, the Salem Witch Museum will take you back to a chilling time during which one of the most highly debated and emotional events in American history took place – the Salem Witch Trials. Feel the terror that struck in the hearts of the Salem townspeople through 13 stage sets, life-size figures, and a mind-blowing narration. The “Witches: Evolving Perceptions” exhibit will show you how the perception of the witch and witch hunts have changed from the 17th century to present day.

Hawthorne Hotel

Taking place on the last Saturday of the month, the historic Hawthorne Hotel has been throwing their world-renowned Halloween bash since 1991. The biggest and the best Halloween party that Salem has to offer see people from all over the globe get in on the three floors of delicious food, live music, dancing, and, of course, the legendary Hawthorne costume contest. For an extra scare, head to the hotel’s haunted elevator and sixth floor, which are said to be haunted by the victims of a double murder. And if you’re really looking for a frightful experience, get in contact with the hotel early in the year to stay there during your time in Salem, MA.

Haunted Harbor Boat Cruise

Set sail with Mahi Mahi Cruises, which offers a selection of Halloween-themed cruises throughout the month of October. Whether you prefer to cruise through the harbor during the day and see all of Massachusetts’ beautiful sights or prefer an adults-only Cocktail Boos Cruise during the night, this Haunted Harbor cruise will bring the Halloween ambiance out with you on the water. Listen to ghost stories experienced by the crew, spooky music, chilly fall temps, and colorful foliage along the coast that make for a one-of-a-kind experience.

Whatever you decide to do, there’s no doubt that you’ll have an amazing fall trip to Salem. For more fun trips and things to do in Massachusetts this holiday season, check out Alta Easterly’s blog page!
